Augusta, Georgia

On top of the world for one week out of the year and fairly quiet the other 51, Augusta has traditionally been content with its annual flash in the spotlight during the Master’s golf tournament. Augusta moves and shakes with the best of ’em during that April week, but the rest of the year, it’s lowland downtown, an amalgamation of 19th-century Sullivan-esque and art deco architecture. But the city is in the midst of a renaissance, mainly due to a tech boom that is positioning Augusta as a major regional cybersecurity and data centre. Spearheaded by multiple private and government cyber institutions and facilities in the works, downtown is experiencing growth not seen in two decades.
